Earth Systems Africa regional office is located in Dakar, Senegal. Internationally, Earth Systems has a network of offices in Melbourne (head office), Perth, Darwin and Brisbane in Australia; Bristol, United Kingdom; Shanghai, China; and Vientiane, Lao PDR.

Earth Systems’ staff comprises highly experienced environmental professionals with complementary skills and experience. Our multicultural staff possesses a broad range of environmental skills that enable us to build teams capable of tackling diverse and complex environmental and social projects. Earth Systems draws on the skills and expertise of a network of professionals in our offices around the world. We believe that the success of the company is largely due to the high calibre people that we employ, and are always looking for such people who are interested in joining us.

Our Associates

In addition to our wide range of internal expertise, Earth Systems has developed a network of Associates that we can draw upon, as required. Our Associates are independent specialist consultants that together cover a wide range of specialist disciplines (e.g. surface and groundwater management; hydrological modelling; air quality and noise management; archaeology and physical cultural resources).

Mr Nigel Murphy

Director, Senior Principal Environmental Scientist

Nigel is a Director of Earth Systems. He has more than 25 years’ experience as an environmental and earth scientist. In addition to specialist technical skills in environmental science, Mr Murphy has extensive experience in interdisciplinary environmental assessments and project management for private sector, government, aid and development projects. Nigel is a leading practitioner in environmental and social impact assessment having led and participated in numerous projects in Australia, Asia, the Pacific and Africa.

Dr Jeff Taylor

Director, Senior Principal Environmental Geochemist

Dr. Taylor is one of the founding directors of Earth Systems. He has more than 30 years’ experience as an environmental and earth scientist and has managed and directed a broad variety of multi-disciplinary environmental projects, both in Australia and overseas. He is regarded as leading expert on issues related to acid and metalliferous drainage (AMD), and has specialist knowledge in the fields of water quality, environmental geochemistry, minesite remediation and nutrient pollution.

Cheikh Mamina Diedhiou

Cheikh has over ten years’ experience in environmental assessments and water resources and wetlands management. He has worked on the environmental and social components of various private, government and development projects in Senegal and West Africa. Cheikh has extensive field experience in ecological and social surveys, installation, and operation of monitoring equipment. He possesses skills in auditing, environmental legislation, project management, wetland and water resource management. Cheikh is fluent in French, English, Wolof, and Diola.

Boubacar Sow

Boubacar is an environmental consultant specializing in socio-economic consultations and audits. His background in business, extensive networking across West Africa and knowledge of regulatory compliance issues bring particularly useful skills to the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment process. Boubacar has previously worked for the largest mining company in Senegal, solving complex community relations issues. He is multi-lingual, leads on fieldwork logistics, and is responsible for business development and administration our Dakar office. Boubacar has capabilities in French, Wolof, Pulaar, and English (intermediate).


Mamadou Samba

Mamadou is an experienced environmental and social impact assessment consultant with specialist skills in socio-economic studies and surface and groundwater quality management. In addition to specialist technical skills in environmental science, he has extensive experience as an irrigation engineer and project manager for numerous projects for the agriculture sector in Senegal. Mamadou is fluent in French, English and Wolof.



Vanessa Lea

Vanessa has multidisciplinary skills and experience working across the environmental consulting and community development sectors. With extensive field experience in remote locations, Vanessa is particularly skilled at capacity building, and devising and implementing best practice social and environmental management and monitoring programs with limited resources. The majority of her experience is with the mining, hydropower, and international development sectors. Vanessa is fluent in English and French and is based in Bamako, Mali.


Fernand Demba

Fernand is a consultant sociologist and agriculturalist, specializing in socioeconomic impact assessment. Prior to joining Earth System, Fernand worked for a large gold mining operation providing day to day community relations and environmental support to the on-site development team. Socio-economic surveys and data management are a particular strength and he has recently designed household surveys and data management for a major Strategic Environment Assessment project covering 2250 households. Fernand has capabilities in French, English, Wolof, Mancagne, Creole (Guinea Bissau).


Marie Pauline Mendy

Marie Pauline holds a Masters degree in Quality, Health, Safety and Environment. With training as an Environmental Engineer, she also has experience as a biological laboratory manager and strong competencies in surface water and groundwater quality studies, ISO standards, quality management, and assessment and management of environmental risks. She has solid knowledge of the Senegalese system for monitoring of classified (hazardous) facilities (ICPE) and experience implementing project monitoring in artisanal mining sites. Marie has language capabilities in French, English (intermediate), Manjacque, Mancagne, Diola and Wolof.


Abdou Sarr

Abdou Sarr is an economist. He began his career in a survey firm where he developed a strong marketing experience. As an administrative assistant, he contributes to the administrative and financial management of Earth Systems in West Africa. His cumulative experiences allow him to have a global vision of financial management in both short and long term. Abdou has capabilities in French, Wolof, and English (intermediate).
