Energy and Renewables

Innovative technologies to provide energy solutions to communities with unreliable or inaccessible electricity are rapidly expanding across sub-Saharan Africa. From hydropower, wind-power, geothermal, biogas and solar PV– an array of technologies are available to assist the world in achieving the milestones of Sustainable Development Goal #7 – “access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”.

Earth Systems has extensive experience in providing environmental and social assessment and management services to hydropower and power transmission projects in Africa at all phases – from site selection, prefeasibility environmental and social assessments through construction and operations monitoring to decommissioning and closure.

Earth Systems combines experience with a strong understanding of international standards, including the Equator Principles and International Finance Corporation’s Performance Standards. This knowledge, coupled with an understanding of local regulatory systems and cultural sensitivities allows us to assist our clients in meeting regulatory requirements for project permitting and/or financing.

Earth Systems also offers Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) services to help renewable energy projects in developing countries take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Kyoto Protocol.

Earth Systems has in-house engineering expertise in biomass pyrolysis technology, and has developed several approaches to biochar production. With extensive experience in sustainable biomass production, bioenergy plant design and carbon credit generation, Earth Systems has the capacity to assist clients in all aspects of bioenergy generation projects.
